Cults tend to splinter after a while when some of their members discover that they too would like to lead a cult of their own, e.g. Joscha Bach & CIMC. It's best to avoid the whole mess entirely & stick to basic principles of reasoning instead of adopting totalizing narratives of technological transcendence, singularity, or animism or whatever is the latest rage among the cultists.
I think the only totalizing narrative I have, personally, is vaudevillian self-amusement.
Animism is only useful to somebody like me because my work is within the Gotthard Gunther tradition, and I am hell-bent on modeling and and building proemial systems. So it is useful if somebody has begun to awaken to a "pointer" for self-reflexion, even if functionalists like Joscha do not have the tools to model them.
If you know Gunther, you know he maintained an uncollapsed volition-cognition dyad, unlike cognitive science. The process for "consciousness" within this tradition is Moebius re-entry recursion or Kaehr's Differenzierung, which requires a torsional flipping-mechanism, and I am using Chu-spaces as a simple way to model the flipping part. So there are two in-jokes: one is this one, and the other is that kenogrammatics is necessary for the Differenzierung to function, so of course I wrote that Joscha's functionalism requires this extension.
So, it should definitely not be misunderstood that I care very directly about any such coarse-grained label like "animism" or am doing anything but pointing a bit of fun at Joscha's functionalism. ^^;
And there also many layers of irony: I deliberately made up pretentious-sounding and specious reasoning in order to mock the people who not only think this way with a straight face, but accuse *me* of specious reasoning by means of *their* specious reasoning. I certainly do not care about any of these stupid cults; I am only annoyed that I should have to encounter them in the wild, and I use this mockery to blow off steam.
The only things I truly care about are ontogenesis and semiosis. I find it is difficult to talk about serious things in these times because there is so little signal and so much noise. Even if you choose to share the truth freely, only very few people will actually hear it.
